Short film research: A Distorted Doll / Horror

     Hey, blog! I'm back, and today, I will continue my research on short films. I'll be researching short films in the horror genre since that is the genre I will be using for my project.

 I hope you enjoy it!

    In this film, some common CAMS it had to the genre were shot-inverse-shot, POV shot, Tracking shot, and zoom-in. These angles and shots allow the audience to see a representation of the film. It is a part of telling a story and can interact with the audience.

    Some common sounds in this film included; were diegetic sounds, such as screaming, creaking, and heavy breathing. Also included non-diegetic sound, for instance, background music of suspense. This short film also carried sound bridges and voiceovers.

    Common Mis-en-scene in this film included; dark lighting which sets a certain mood in the audience, bruising on the body which is done with makeup and shows a sign of violence, blood which can inflict fear, and a doll, which was a main prop to tell a story.

    Certain editing such as cross-cutting, cut away, insert, eye-line match, and action match were used in this short film to include many scenes and to also create a suspense feeling in the audience that would make them nervous when watching.

    Examples of films in the genre include;

-The Boy

- Annabelle

-Robert

    Elements I enjoy in the genre are the feeling the Mis-en-scene and editing give you because it gets you tense and anxious and the effort of foreshadowing.

    Elements I don't enjoy in the film are some of the shots however they carry a significance value, and the predictability level is high.

That's it for today's blog! Until next time. Karina logging off!

Critical Reflection for Short Film

  After our film “She’s Here” was released, many questions began to form, one of the questions that stood out to me the most was how our products represented social groups or issues. To begin, the main representation in our film was disability where the kid that the babysitter is taking care of is a mute child. We made this obvious to the audience when the child, Lana, began to write in her daily notebook to communicate with her babysitter. The use of the mute child showed how lack of communication could occur even when you say everything properly, but the tone you say it can have a strong impact on how the person receiving the message interprets the message, which is an entirely different form of “lack of communication”. This can also connect to social issues in life, for instance, the experience the child goes through can sooner or later lead to post-traumatic distress for the child and even the babysitter, affecting the mental health of one another. Along with this, the child be...

Production Blog: On set

Hye blog! Its me again. It has been about six days since the last time we filmed. Our first time filming was very successful. I started off todays filming day the same way I started it last time. I texted everyone who is on set to confirm whether they are able to make it or not. I started to head to Marianas house but I ended up arriving late due to traffic issues. Since I was already late I stopped by to get small snacks for everyone so we don't have to stop like we did last time. I let my partner know that I was arriving late and that she could get a head start on the filming. Today the goal was to shoot at least 4 new scenes so we can speed up the process. Unfortunately there were many minor things we have forgotten to include in this task. For instance, we forgot to remind everyone to wear the same costume they had on the first day of filming. Next we forgot to provide our new cast member with a list of items they needed to bring for their character, also we forgot to provide s...
