Genre blog: thriller

Hey blog! It’s me again! Today we will be researching genres for our final task. The first genre being researched is thriller.

In this genre there are a lot of shots and angles, for example, a high angle. A high angle makes the character look more vulnerable, and it conveys danger and shock to the film. There are also Dutch angles, Dutch angles help create suspense and tension to the movie. One of the most important shots and angles are the ones that show emotions of the characters. One of these are close and extreme close-up shots. This helps us see more emotion from the actors’ eyes. Another is a low angle, this one allows the characters, mainly the so and so “evil one” in the film look aggressive and carry power. A wide shot emphasizes space to make someone, or something seem isolated.

Some mis-en-scenes are the lightings. Some lightings are low level lighting, this helps create shadows to create fear and tension. One of the biggest they use is dark lighting. They use this lighting because the dark is a common fear within everyone in the world. Besides lighting another feature in the thriller genres are make-up. There are different types of make ups in this genre, for example, bruises and cuts which allow the audience to emphasize they were or are in danger. Another makeup is the basic kind of make up which helps others see they’re a normal character and sometimes it can make them look scary, for example in the orphan the little girl wore makeup that made her look scary because she was young and dressed and looked etiquette. One of the most common settings in thriller is isolation because it allows the character to notice danger whenever they hear sounds. Finally, the props used in thriller are mainly weapons because they bring in violence and tension and suspense.

Editing in this genre are mainly cutting and jumping between different shot in quick succession, this helps us create to sense the urgency and urgent haste. One of the most important sounds is non-diegetic music that can help create a sound bridge in the movie.

Some movies that are in the thriller genre are

Talk to me

Five nights at Freddy’s

Parasite

Saw x.

Insidious the red door

The black swan

Bones and all

In this genre, things I like are how the genre making you curious on what is going to happen next and how it gives you a tension but not in a bad way, but in a way that makes you want to continue watching.

Some things that I do not enjoy very much would be the prediction it gives sometimes when the foreshadow is too obvious.

That’s it for today blog, till next time.

Production Blog: On set

Hye blog! Its me again. It has been about six days since the last time we filmed. Our first time filming was very successful. I started off todays filming day the same way I started it last time. I texted everyone who is on set to confirm whether they are able to make it or not. I started to head to Marianas house but I ended up arriving late due to traffic issues. Since I was already late I stopped by to get small snacks for everyone so we don't have to stop like we did last time. I let my partner know that I was arriving late and that she could get a head start on the filming. Today the goal was to shoot at least 4 new scenes so we can speed up the process. Unfortunately there were many minor things we have forgotten to include in this task. For instance, we forgot to remind everyone to wear the same costume they had on the first day of filming. Next we forgot to provide our new cast member with a list of items they needed to bring for their character, also we forgot to provide s...

Short film research: A Distorted Doll / Horror

Hey, blog! I'm back, and today, I will continue my research on short films. I'll be researching short films in the horror genre since that is the genre I will be using for my project.  I hope you enjoy it!      In this film, some common CAMS it had to the genre were shot-inverse-shot, POV shot, Tracking shot, and zoom-in. These angles and shots allow the audience to see a representation of the film. It is a part of telling a story and can interact with the audience.      Some common sounds in this film included; were diegetic sounds, such as screaming, creaking, and heavy breathing. Also included non-diegetic sound, for instance, background music of suspense. This short film also carried sound bridges and voiceovers.      Common Mis-en-scene in this film included; dark lighting which sets a certain mood in the audience, bruising on the body which is done with makeup and shows a sign of violence, blood which can...
