critical creative reflection

In this music video I have learned a lot from my groupmate's and technology. The process wasnt easy but it was done. In our music video my group and I decided to challenge the conventions. In the genre most of it follows what the song is saying or shows two scenes but goes back and forth. In our music video we made a script in which we acted out what the song felt like for us. One meaning we had of the song was drifting apart from a relationship and learning to let go, the other was realizing your actions and feeling guilt after. An issue this music video represented was jealousy and how it can come over your actions. The girl (maddie) realized that her friend and boyfriend were cheating behind her back and she took action by drowning the girl. A group this video could affect would be jealous people or people who cheat and lead people on. It could help them to understand how their actions can really affect people from the other side and be considerate. This music video is a murder kind, it has a very dramatic effect and what would make people watch this over other videos is the meaning of the video and how thinking before you act is important. I feel it could really touch the audience and give them a push to realize the worse outcome of things. It could gain attention mainly with the murder. Many people watch movies and shows that show how things went down between people due to the causes.  If this was a professional video I would release it on tiktok and instagram. I would use these two big social media apps because it will give it a lot of publicity since nowadays people use these apps more than youtube. There are also open opportunities. There's this one movie where they hired an actress who was on instagram for a movie which was later published on Netflix. At first my group and I were at a loss with what to do, we sat at a table for a while brainstorming. We went through our playlists and looked at songs. Normally people pick a song then choose how that song feels for them, but we did things a little differently. As we listened to the songs we were paying close attention to the songs that fit a certain theme. We chose a theme that felt mysterious, jealousy and murder type. We listened and wrote down the ones we got that vibe from. We compared our lists and lowered it to five songs. Jealousy by Olivia Rodrigo, ARE WE STILL FRIENDS by Tyler the Creator, Dead to Me by Kali Uchis, Kill Bill by SZA and Mamas boy by Dominic Fike. As we continued this process we slowly began to eliminate it. The way we were eliminated was by playing the song, closing our eyes and pictured. Most of the time with some of these songs there needed to be more information given into it, it didn't seem to fit right with the way we were picturing. When “are we still friends'' came on there was a part that fit perfectly. We all gave a reason on why we should do this. We looked at the pros and cons of doing this. We dsid second guess ourselves a lot. I would say this was the hardest part of the whole project. This did take up a lot of our time that day, but we also began filming that day just to have a visual image of what we would be working on. I feel we could have picked the song and story a way easier by doing it how most people do it, listening to a song and doing what it makes you feel like. Our process was a long and complicated process but in the end we all agreed on the same thing. During our filming and editing process and keeping up with our work we have learned a lot. Firstly, the filming process. We all came to an agreement to film with a phone, preferably the newest phone one of us had, we chose this because we didn't really own a camera but a GoPro. We also did not know how to properly use a camera. There was a point where a camera would've came in handy. Originally during the drowning scene we wanted to do a close up shot underwater, but with a phone this got tricky. We attempted to continue on with this idea with the plastic phone covers that allow your phone to not get wet, but it did not come out as well. Cameras also have better visual quality than a phone, it would have made the video look more efficient. This helped us understand what we can do to improve our next project. We figured it would have been easier to edit on our phones since it is an object that we use everyday. For editing we used CapCut, we used this mainly because I have used this app before so I knew my way around the app, at least the basics so I could help my groupmates. At first I wanted to use iMovie since it can be accessed on phone and computer, but it was easier for my groupmates and I on our phone. There were a lot of complications with this app, for example, the app continued to glitch during editing. After this project I have gotten way better at fixing the glitches and I've improved on the texts. To keep up with my work and the process I used blogger, this was an easy process, it's easy to use and it doesn't take up storage. Blogger has easy access and it is like you are writing in a word document but you are able to publish it so everyone can see.  Overall this project has helped me improve more and allowed me to reflect on what can be improved and look at the easier paths and find a faster and better way.
